Ntorya 3 Renamed Chikumbi-1 As Drilling Nears

The planned Ntorya 3 well in Tanzania’s the Ntorya appraisal area will now be renamed Chikumbi-1 well at the request of the Tanzanian Government according to operator Aminex.

According to Aminex the well targeting the same reservoir tested in Ntorya-1 and in Ntorya-2 in an updip position will also be testing a deeper target at the proposed total depth is approx. 3,400 metres. Ntorya-3 well is expected to be drilled 5.65km west of Ntorya-1.

Further on Ntorya 3 Aminex says the tendering process for a rig to drill Chikumbi-1 is due to close during the current quarter with an expected spud date later in the year, exact timing of which will be dependent on rig availability.

Meanwhile the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) status for the acquisition of further 2D and 3D seismic data over the Ruvuma Production Sharing Agreement acreage, focusing on the Ntorya discovery area. This new seismic will enable the acquisition of up to 700 square kilometres of new 3D seismic in the deep water.

Aminex adds continues to be in advanced discussions for a farm-out transaction at Ruvuma, including the Ntorya appraisal area, with an affiliate of the Zubair Corporation, Eclipse Investments LLC one of Oman’s leading business groups.
