WHL Energy to drill in Seychelles Junon block in 2015
WHL Energy is preparing to participate in drilling in its Junon block in Seychelles after it completes interpretation of 3D seismic acquired in June last year.
According to WHL Energy the 1,500 km2 survey acquired without incident in June-July 2014 by Dolphin Polar Duchess will the see Onboard processed fast track volume expected in late September while the final PreSTM volume is expected December.
“The partnership is now moving into 3D seismic interpretation phase, prospect maturation and exploration drilling in 2015,” WHL says in a statement.
The Seychelles area has geological affinities with the East Africa margin, which has become a focus of industry exploration attention due to the recent discovery of world class gas resources (100 Tcf) offshore Mozambique and Tanzania, and also Madagascar which hosts multi-billion barrel heavy oil deposits.
WHL Energy has mapped some 20 exploration prospects and leads with an oil charge from the Corriera basin a priority to mature for drilling in the east of the block while in the west the giant Beau Vallon structure, with billion barrel oil potential is mapped which will also be subject to further seismic acquisition.
WHL Energy has 25 percent non operated interest while Ophir Energy is the operator with 75 % interest.
