Total Commences 2D Seismic Data Acquisition, Block III, Albertine Graben, DRC
Democratic Republic of Congo Block III operator Total E&P has announced he has commenced with the acquisition of a 2D seismic survey following the granting of a two-year extension to current exploration period by the Minister of Hydrocarbons.
Total will under the current survey design envisage the acquisition of 300 km of 2D seismic data over the northern part of the Block III area without the encroachment on the environmentally sensitive Virunga National Park.
This seismic acquisition is part of the program is in fulfilment of the work program obligations.
Block III is located in the north-eastern part of the country, bordering Uganda on the DRC side of the Albertine Graben Basin, which is part of the East African Rift System.
The current exploration period of Block III is extended to 26 January 2018.
To date various studies have been undertaken including: regional geological and geophysical studies, Satellite screen study, Environmental and social risk screening, Social and labour plans, Workshops and engagements with related parties and stakeholders, Environmental and Social Impact Assessments Gravity and magnetic survey.
Total E&P holds 66.7 percent SacOil 12.5 percent and the DRC Government 15%.
