Tanzania Upstream Outlook Projects Increased Activity in 2020
The just released Tanzania Upstream Outlook for the Year 2020 shows there will be increased activity in both the exploration and development phases of the various ongoing and yet to start projects.
In exploration the outlook states that the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation will continue to be the major actor in seismic acquisition surveys expected in multiple licenses it operates most of which were set for 2019 but which have been pushed forward in 2020. In most of these licenses advertisement for tendering for environmental and social impact assessment and for contractors to provide seismic acquisition has already been concluded with the selection process underway.
In the drilling side several wells are expected by companies in the exploration and development phases all of which will be onshore with post exploration wells dominating. In some of these instances the license holders plan for shallow reconnaissance wells as funding remains a major hindrance as oil prices remain low with average 2020 figures projected to be about $60/b in some cases lower than 2019 figures.
Offshore there is expected to be low activity as witnessed in 2019 with major works expected once operators reach the final investment decision. In one instance there is expected to be offshore 3D seismic acquisition a continuation of the 2D seismic, gravity and magnetic data over the Rovuma Delta in 2015.
Pipeline expansion is expected to continue with a number of producers pushing to increase demand with take up mostly falling in the industrial side.
