Statoil to drill in Block 2 Tanzania in Q1 2018
Block 2 Statoil operator plans to drill one-well drilling program offshore Tanzania in Q1 2018 and has already contracted Ocen Rig an international contractor of offshore deep water drilling services.
The drilling to be performed by the Ocean Rig Poseidon hopes to add to its earlier seven discoveries including Zafarani, Lavani, Tangawizi and Mronge discoveries in 2014, the Piri and Giligiliani discoveries in 2014, lastly the Mdalasini discovery in 2015 all estimated combined in-place volume of around 22 trillion cubic feet.
Block 2 covers an area of approximately 5,500 square kilometres and lies in water depths between 1,500 and 3,000 metres.
Statoil Tanzania AS has 65% working interest, with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Limited as a partner with 35% interest.
