Solar Provider Mobisol Launches Kisumu Flagship Store

The Germany-based company aims to provide affordable high-quality solar to tens of thousands of beneficiaries in Kisumu County.

Mobisol, the leading Germany-based provider of smart high-quality solar solutions, has launched its flagship store in Kisumu in a bid to tap into the rural market with off-grid solar systems.

The flagship store which is strategically located at Jubilee House along Oginga Odinga street was officially opened by Kisumu County Governor Mr Jack Ranguma and various county officials.  During the launch, Mobisol showcased their high-performing solar home and business systems, as part of the organization’s commitment to providing affordable, reliable and environmentally-friendly rural electrification in Kenya.

Speaking during the launch, Mobisol’s East Africa’s Chief Executive Officer Henrik Axelsson noted that the company has invested heavily in innovation and research to enable customers access to high-quality products and a comprehensive user experience, citing the reliability and consistency of German technology over the years.

“Rural communities in Kenya continue to use unreliable fossil fuels like kerosene, which are not only harmful to the environment and people’s health but are also costly to maintain – yet, solar energy is in abundance. Through Mobisol’s top-notch technology, off-grid households in Kenya can finally afford home and business solar systems, and enjoy a modern and comfortable lifestyle, improve their economic well-being and also set new standards for worldwide sustainability,” said Axelsson.

While gracing the occasion, Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma noted that the launch of the Kisumu store affirms the success of solar public-private partnerships, which benefit the community as a whole. He urged the public to consider solar energy to help save on energy related expenditure for an improved lifestyle.

“The biggest household expenditure of rural communities is kerosene. Additionally, with the growth of the real estate market in the country, I would like to urge contractors to consider installing solar panels, which are a clean, safe and renewable energy source. This will not only help communities save on energy, but the diverse products create a source of income. For example, Kisumu fans of football can now enjoy watching matches on Mobisol’s large solar powered television, while charging their phones,” said Ranguma.

The company, which retails directly to customers, services over 70,000 households in Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania, with plans to open additional 20 stores in Kenya in 2017. Mobisol customers enjoy a three-year flexible payment plan via mobile money as well as extended warranties, free installation and free maintenance for three years.

Mobisol’s solar systems range from 80 to 200 Wp at competitive prices. The company’s large solar home systems come complete with several ultra-efficient LED light sets, portable lantern, mobile phone charger kit, large high-performance flat-screen LED TVs up to sizes of 32”, portable radio and balance-of-system components including wiring and switches.

Having set foot in Kenya in 2016, Mobisol boasts of higher capacity and much more powerful products sizes than those of similar providers on the market. The opening of the flagship store comes at a time when there is a strong market transition to solar energy trend within Kenyan communities.
