Soco to complete seismic in Controversial DRC’s Virunga Park by June
Soco international will complete the ongoing lake bed seismic survey on Lake Edward on Block V by the end of this quarter according to the latest update by the company.
Soco international says the seismic survey represents the Company’s final operational activity onsite Block V under its current work programme although no drilling has been planned or is warranted at this stage.
The company says it carried out necessary preparation before commencing the seismic survey as well as receiving approval in late 2013 from the DRC Ministry of the Environment and ICCN, which is the Park Warden’s organization.
Virunga Park has been a point of controversy with environmentalist warning that exploration in the park that habits the endangered mountain gorillas could negatively affect conservation efforts as well as warning that such works could lead to the inclusion of invasive plant species.
