Description
Ethiopia is a country located in the horn of Africa neighboring Eritrea and Djibouti to the north, Somaliland to the northeast, Somalia, Kenya to the south, South Sudan to the west and Sudan to the northwest. The country has a total area of of 420,000 sq mi with a population more than 115 million.
Ethiopia lies in between old and new oil and gas discoveries including those in the Middle East, the Sudan and the East African Rift.
Oil seeps have been discovered in different parts of Ethiopia with oil and gas shows seen in multiple exploration wells.
Ethiopia has various geological structures and has more than 30 percent sedimentary basins with 25% of the country has already been mapped with Full Tensor Gravity. The six known identified basins include:
- The Ogaden basin
- The Abay/ Blue Nile basin
- The Gambela basin
- The Mekele Basin
- The Southern Ethiopian Rift
- The Metema basin
Of the six the Ogaden basin and the Southern Ethiopian Rift have shown huge potential.
