National Oil Corporation Readies for Drilling in Kenya’s Block 14T
Block 14T operator the state owned National Oil Corporation has indicated it is ready to commence drilling with the invitation to tender for provision of onshore drilling services.
The tender set to close on 29th May is open to both local and international bidders lays emphasis on the company contracted being able to enhance skills and technology transfer to the staff of NOCK as well as foster local content through training of Kenyan drilling crews, Drilling Management, operational logistic, development of local suppliers and a comprehensive local supply chain to service the drilling company.
“…they should have (i) a strong track record of operating with, and developing, local content (skills, technology transfer as well as supplier development, ideally in Sub-Sahara Africa) and; (ii) operational compliance with international oil and gas practices,” the tender asserts.
Block 14T which lies in the tertiary rift basin in southern Kenya has a larger portion of its basement 0.5 to 2 kilometers in depth and is yet to be drilled.
Already a number of data acquisition activities have been carried out in the block including 400 km of 2D seismic and Magneto Telluric (MT) survey. National Oil has also completed a gas seepage Geochemical study, ground gravity studies as well as 20,000 line km of FTG studies.
