Kenya Government Gazettes Land for South Lokichar Basin Oil Project

The National Land Commission (NLC) on behalf of the Ministry of Petroleum & Mining, State Department of Petroleum has gazetted 6348Ha of land to be used in the South Lokichar basin oil project in Turkana county. The land which touches on three crucial fields namely the: Ngamia, Amosing and Twiga that will see the construction of 65 well pads taking an area 435Ha.

The gazette notice no.1157 on the intention to acquire land in a breakdown cites that the Ngamia field needs 4050Ha, Amosing field 1841Ha and Twiga field 547Ha as part of the South Lokichar phase 1 development which envisages production from the Ngamia and Amosing fields to tap 240mmbbl at a rate of 60,000 to 80,000 bopd with first oil expected 2022.

Front Engineering End Design (FEED) studies is currently ongoing with an expected completion date of Q1 2019 while the KJV continues to target Final Investment Decision (FID) in late 2019.

Last week Tullow Oil listed concluding agreements over land title among requirements needed in order to reach a Final Investment Decision by year end in Blocks 10BB and 13T.
