EGYPT: Welligence Energy Reports Gas Discovery at Chevron’s Nargis-1X exploration well
Welligence Energy Analytics has reported that Chevron has made a gas discovery in its successfully drilled first offshore well in Egypt. According to Wellifence the Nargis-1X exploration well has discovered 3.5 Tcf of gas.
The Nargis block is operated by Chevron 45%, with partners Eni 45%, and Tharwa Petroleum Company (S.A.E.) 10%. The discovery is located in deepwater, offshore the Sinai Peninsula. The development of the discovery will be critical for maintaining Egypt’s gas production at recent record highs.
Chevron has a strong position in the East Mediterranean after acquiring Noble Energy in 2020. Exploration in the area has ramped up this year with ExxonMobil, QatarEnergy, TotalEnergies, and Eni drilling two successful appraisal wells in Cyprus along with Energean announcing three discoveries in Israel.
