UK’s exploration firm BG Group has made an oil and gas discovery in lamu at the Kenyan coast although the reserves have been termed to be on no commercial threshold.

According to the cabinet secretary for energy Davies Chirchir the discovery that was made at the block L10B shows the high potential for gas in Lamu County.

The block is jointly owned by BG Group with 45 percent, Pancontinental Oil & Gas and PTTEP with 15 percent with Premier Oil having withdrawn formerly holding 20%.

Chirchir was speaking during the energy stakeholders’ forum in Nairobi.
