AfDB affirms commitment to funding Menengai Geothermal Project
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Menengai Geothermal Project during a tour of the project by the AfDB Vice President and Special Envoy on Gender Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi .
Geraldine exclaimed the Menengai project would be a great achievement for the world and renewable energy.
“What I have seen here in Menengai is quite remarkable! The biggest achievement is that this is a Kenyan-run facility. Menengai should now be a Global Center of Excellence. As an African, I look at Menengai with great pride. We need to celebrate it,” she said.
Ms. Moleketi stated that AfDB will walk together with GDC in order to achieve the grand vision.
The envoy was flanked by the AfDB coordinator at the National Treasury Ms. Fresia Kamau, the AfDB Country Programme Officer Mr. Samuel Kamara, among other delegates.
Speaking on behalf of the National Treasury, Ms. Kamau noted that the Menengai Geothermal Project is a good case study and said that the government appreciates the work GDC has done so far.
“As National Treasury, we are looking at the Ministry of Energy to avail 5,000MW to enhance trade and commerce in order to create employment. GDC plays a key role in the achievement of this target,” she indicated.
